SANTIAGO: Shares in Chilean retailer La Polar surged around 20 percent on Wednesday, rebounding after a massive slide, as shareholders began a meeting that aims to defuse the risk of bankruptcy amid a customer credit scandal.
La Polar's shares had plummeted more than 80 percent since June 9, when the company disclosed management firings over customer credit practices, before Wednesday's gains. The stock was 19.4 percent firmer at 558 pesos after earlier surging over 22 percent.
