CBOT early call-Corn up 8-10 cents as dollar weakens

Published Updated

CHICAGO: Chicago Board of Trade corn futures were called to open 8 to 10 cents higher Friday on a weaker dollar and on talk China may be seeking US corn.

* Support also from a South Korean tender on Friday for over a half million tonnes of feed corn and feed wheat and short-covering after the fall on Thursday to a one-month low.

* The dollar slid on Friday amid talk of a deal to resolve Greece's debt crisis.

* Three groups of South Koean feedmakers are seeking a total of 350,000 tonnes of feed corn and 220,000 tonnes of feed wheat for September and October arrivals via tenders on Friday.

* A consortium of Israeli private buyers has purchased about 27,000 tonnes of corn, 22,000 tonnes of corn products and 8,000 tonnes of soymeal all from the United States, European traders said on Friday.

* Warmer and drier weather in the US Midwest is boosting growth and development of the newly seeded corn and soybean crops. Some occasional shower activity over the next several days may slow soybean plantings but overall, crop weather continues to improve.

* US Gulf FOB export premiums firm late on Thursday as the recent plunge of futures spurred renewed buyer interest and interior cash basis values mostly steady and farmer selling was light.
