Published Updated

gilani_meetingISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said that the provision of basic facilities to the people at their doorsteps was at the top of government's development agenda for the coming fiscal year.

In coordination with the provincial governments, the Federal Government would pursue the development programme vigorously to provide maximum relief to the people at large, he added.

The Prime Minister was talking to Minister for Communications Dr. Arbab Alamgir Khan and MNA Dr. Asma Arbab Alamgir who called on him here at the PM House.

The Prime Minister, while highlighting the importance of the provision of health facilities to the people, said though the subject under the 18th Constitutional Amendment was proposed to be transferred to provinces, yet the Federal Government would provide every possible assistance in that regard.

He maintained that under-developed and far-flung areas would be targeted in a sustained programme being prepared in consultation with the elected representatives.

He mentioned that the projects under the coming year's PSDP (Public Sector Development Programme) focused on maximum public utility schemes.

With particular reference to the construction of Children Hospital Complex and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Hospital in Peshawar, the Prime Minister said that necessary directives had been issued for fast-tracking the process.

The Minister for Communications apprised the Prime Minister about various proposals for the establishment of Children Hospital Complex and Benazir Bhutto Hospital in Peshawar.

He thanked the Prime Minister for his personal interest for supporting different development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Dr. Arbab Alamgir also briefed the Prime Minister on various projects undertaken by the Ministry of Communications, particularly the National Highway Authority.
