PESHAWR: The most senior judge of Peshawar High Court (PHC), Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel took oath as Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court at a ceremony held at Governor's House here on Tuesday.
The Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Engr. Shaukatullah administered the oath to the new CJ PHC. Chief Minister, Parvez Khattak was also present at the occasion.
Later on the Governor and the Chief Minister congratulated Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel on taking over the new responsibilities.
The ceremony besides the judges of the Peshawar High Court was also attended by provincial Senior Minister, Sirajul Haq, provincial ministers, senior government officials, senior lawyers, elected cabinet of Peshawar High Court Bar Association (PHCBA), District Bar Peshawar and the relatives and well wishers of the new Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court.
The government has appointed Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel after the retirement of the Chief Justice Mian Fasihul Mulk on Monday last. Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel has started his judicial career in September 7, 2009 and was elevated to the bench as additional judge of the PHC. He made a permanent judge of the high court on September 5, 2011.
Chief Justice Mazhar Alam Miankhel was born in the Miankhel family of Dera Ismail Khan on July 14, 1957. He received his secondary education in Peshawar and graduated from the Gomal University, Dera Ismail Khan in 1979.
After obtaining law degree from the Gomal University in 1982, he started his professional career in 1982 following getting enrolled as an advocate in the lower courts.
He was enrolled as an advocate of the high court in 1984 and Supreme Court in 2003. He remained member of NWFP (now Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) Bar Council in the sessions 1999 to 2003 and 2004 to 2009. From 1998 to 2000, he served as the visiting part-time lecturer in Law College, Gomal University.
He has vast experience in administration of justice and administrative affairs and earned great respect of the judges and legal fraternity.
