imageLAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Tuesday stayed election tribunal from proceeding on an election petition challenging the election of PTI MPA Murad Ross from PP-152.

The single bench comprising Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah passed the orders on a petition filed by MPA Murad Ross challenging an election tribunal order and proceedings against him. The court also sought reply from Election Commission and other respondents by March 24.

Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that the petitioner was elected as MPA from PP-152 in general election 2013 but a rival candidate approached the election tribunal challenging petitioner's election on charges of alleged corrupt and illegal practices in the election.

He said that allegations levelled in the election petition were vague and generalised whereas it was mandatory to give full particulars with details, as per Representation of Peoples Act (ROPA).

He pointed out that the tribunal had rejected petitioner's application for dismissal of election petition on failure to provide full particulars of charges.

He pleaded the court to set aside tribunal orders being illegal as allegations against petitioner were vague. He also pleaded the court to dismiss the election petition against the petitioner.

The court after hearing the arguments stayed tribunal and sought reply by March 24.
