PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government would observe Anti-Corruption Week from December 9 to 14, to create awareness against devastating effects of corruption.
Chief Minister Pervez Khattak stated this in a message on the eve of International Anti-Corruption Day, to be observed on Monday.
He stressed government functionaries, civil society, educational institutions, media and society to join hands for making Anti-Corruption Week a real success in terms of raising maximum awareness.
He said that corruption undermined progress, bred injustice, stifled economic growth and hampered efforts of institution building and improving public service delivery.
He said corruption was rampant in the society and it would destroy the social fabric, if left uncontrolled. Corruption affects all segments of society, creates inequalities, undermines good governance and human rights, he added.
He expressed the need for concerted efforts to eliminate corruption from the society. Curbing of corruption from the society, especially from the government machinery, ranked high on the agenda of provincial government, he added.
Referring to establishment of an independent, autonomous and impartial accountability commission, besides the enactment of Right to Information Law, he said that these legislative frameworks would help eliminate corruption and ensure transparency in the government departments.
Pervez Khattak termed the role of media in curbing corruption vital and urged it to expose corruption, wherever it existed.
