APTPMA against proposed power tariff hike

FAISALABAD: Rizwan Ashraf, Regional Chairman All Pakistan Textile Processing Mills Association (APTPMA) strongly reacted against proposed increase of Rs 3 per unit of electricity and said that there is no justification of such increase after stabilisation of Pak rupee in international money markets.

In a press statement, he said “electricity rates linked with dollar automatically increase with depreciation of our currency. Hence our economists should exploit their potentialities for the stabilization of Pak rupee.”

He said during PPP government dollar jumped from Rs 60 to Rs 94 and this upward trend is still continuing during the first three months of the PML-N government. ”It is only due to this reason that prices of petroleum products, electricity and gas are increasing,” he added.

Rizwan Ashraf said government should wake up from long slumber and fulfil its election commitments made for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan. He said practically people are losing their purchasing power and are now unable to maintain their present status.

He said “our growth rate is directly linked with industries. Our industrial growth that was stagnant during the tenure of previous government is now further dip-nosed as rulers as well as bureaucracy failed to fulfil their obligations.”

He said Pak rupee has gained strength after the approval of recent tranche of IMF loan and hence there is no justification for any more increase in electricity rates.
