LONDON: European stock markets closed down on Tuesday, with London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares ending 0.19 percent lower at 6,453.46 points.
Frankfurt's DAX 30 lost 0.79 percent to 8,300.03 points, while the CAC 40 in Paris fell 1.35 percent to 4,028.93 points.
