shahbaz-sharifRAWALPINDI: Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday inaugurated a flyover an underpass at Pirwadahi Morr constructed at a cost of Rs 1447 million.

Shahbaz Sharif told reporters said that the project had been completed within stipulated time.

Director General, NLC Rawalpindi, Maj. Gen. Asghar Nawaz during a briefing given to the Chief Minister said that the project was completed by NLC in less than five months.

The target was accomplished despite monumental challenges like round the clock flow of heavy vehicular traffic and shifting of utility services.

The flyover is built at Peshawar Road where the traffic from Peshawar heads towards Saddar. While the underpass connects I.J. Principal Road with Peshawar Road.

He informed that the monolith deck slab measuring 378 meters without any joint was constructed which is first of its kind in the country.

The flyover will facilitate hundreds of thousands of commuters coming to and going out of Rawalpindi and Islamabad and the residents of several densely populated localities of the twin cities daily.

The length of the two-lane underpass is 436 meters while the three lanes bridge is 380 meters long and the length of ramps ranges from 95 to 96 meters.

There are as many 12 spans each having a total length of 31 meters. Vertical clearance at intersection is 5.6 meters. Apart from providing hassle free access, the flyover and underpass will reduce fuel consumption by 370 gallon per peak hour, which is estimated at around Rs 150,000 per peak hour or Rs 219 million per year.

The CM said NLC has emerged as trend setter of speedy construction of superior quality structures unparallel in the construction history of the country.

NLC has recently constructed Chandni Chowk Flyover in just 127 days and another flyover at 6th Road Junction on the busy Murree Road in a 100 days.

NLC is presently undertaking construction works on Mureer Chowk tunnel project in Rawalpindi and several other mega development works worth billions of rupees across the country.

Baseless allegations of corruption in Punjab government projects were leveled, he said adding, declaring Metro Bus Project, Ujala and Laptop Programmes transparent by Transparency International was an honour for Punjab Government.

Shahbaz Sharif said that Transparency International Pakistan by declaring these mega projects clean has verified the policy of transparency of Punjab government.

He said that the wrong statement of those making propaganda of seventy and ninety billion rupees about Metro Bus Project has been exposed. The Chief Minister said that Punjab government had promoted merit and transparency during the five years.

He said that his government has transformed all its promises into reality in Rawalpindi by implementing mega health, traffic, education and development projects in record time.

On this occasion, Provincial Law Minister (Punjab) Rana Sana Ullah, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Imdad Ullah Bosal, Project Director Brig. Shahid Manzoor, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Muhammad Zubair, District Coordination Officer (DCO) Rawalpindi Saqib Zafar, City Police Officer (CPO) Azhar Hammed Khokhar, Members National Assembly (MNA) Malik Abrar, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and others were present.
