chicken 400HYDERABAD: Chicken meat shops doing business in unhygienic conditions in Hyderabad are putting public health at risk, causing different diseases among the citizens.

It was observed that there are chicken sale shops in almost all the markets of Hyderabad. These shops appear to be a major source of environmental pollution in the localities surrounding them as their cleaning arrangements are insufficient and foul smell around them can be sensed every time.

A customer Arshad said that the garbage dump near the shops in the markets is a potential health hazard for the citizens.

He lamented that "Garbage dumps have been placed in proximity to the chicken meat shops, thereby creating unhygienic conditions in the nearby residential area.

Another visitor to the market Ahsan Ali said that the unbearable foul smell emanating from the filth compels the people to pass by the shops with their nose covered.

The garbage dumping spots have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.

Also, as stray dogs and cats enter the garbage bins and rummage through the trash for their food, they scatter the filth all over the road, he said. There is an acute fear of mosquitoes spreading diseases. Even the vegetable vendors around the chicken meat shops are victims as they are exposed to mosquitoes.

Another local resident of Hussinabad said that "The authorities of the solid waste management seem to be least bothered about the presence of garbage bins near the chicken meat shops."

A chicken meat vendor at the market said, "Garbage van regularly visits the place for collecting garbage, yet the stench is unbearable. People are also responsible for the menace as domestic waste dumped by them is not being segregated into dry and wet garbage before throwing it into the bins.

They also demanded that concerned authorities should take necessary preventive measures for handling the solid waste and to see to it that citizens are not inconvenienced due to the menace.
