MILAN: Italian oil and gas giant Eni said on Monday it started gas production on Jan. 31 at its MLE field in Algeria with partner Sonatrach.
The field can produce and sell 9 million cubic meters of gas per day, Eni said in a statement.
Eni in 2012 was Algeria's largest energy producer, with 80,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day.
With the production of the MLE field, Eni sees its daily output growing to 100,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in 2013.
