cm flood copyLAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has announced financial assistance of Rs 500,000 each for the heirs of those who had lost their lives during recent torrential rains and flood in various parts of the province.

He also provided his helicopter and directed the Disaster Management authority to start immediate relief activities in rain and flood stricken areas.

In a directive to the concerned authorities, he said marooned people would never be left alone in this hour of difficulty as helping flood affected people and provision of immediate relief to them should be foremost responsibility of the government.

Ordering Senator Sirdar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Provincial Minister Ch. Abdul Ghafoor, DG PDMA Mujahid Sherdil and DG Rescue 1122 to immediately reach Dera Ghazi Khan, Chief Minister directed them to personally monitor relief activities in the flood affected areas, besides ensuring provision of relief to the people in this hour of difficulty.

Chief Minister further directed that moment to moment report of relief activities and rain and flood situation be submitted to him and said that he himself would monitor the relief activities.

Expressing deep sorrow over the loss of life and property due to torrential rains and floods, Shahbaz Sharif said that the people of Punjab would help the affected brethren with similar zeal as they had displayed in worst flood two years ago. Chief Minister directed the Irrigation Department to inspect protective embankments and dykes and take all protective measures in this regard.

On the directive of the Chief Minister Punjab de-watering sets have been sent from Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Sahiwal divisions alongwith truckloads of relief goods to Dera Ghazi Khan for providing immediate relief to the flood affectees.
