ISLAMABAD: Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar on Tuesday said that Zorlu Enerji Wind Power plant would start supplying 56.6 MW electricity to the national grid station by December.

Talking to media persons after signing Financial Close ceremony of 56.6 MW Zorlu Enerji Wind Power Project being set up at Jhimpir (Sindh) here, he said that now physical construction would be started on the project after the financial close. Some machinery has already been reached at the Karachi port from Turkey for onward transportation to the project site.

He said that several others Turkish companies are also keen to invest in wind sector of the country and hopefully we would achieve a target of generating 1500 MW of electricity from wind, set for next year.

He said that the Turkish company would initially set up 56.6 MW wind energy plant and gradually set up plants having 100 to 200 MW capacities.

Naveed said that the Sindh government has also been asked to provide land for wind project at reasonable rates in order to set up plants on priority.

Replying to a question regarding power load-shedding, he expressed the hope that with shooting up mercury level in the country, the hydel generation would also improve in the coming days due to increase water inflow in all majors rivers.

He said that efforts were also being made to enure smooth oil and gas supply to power generating plants.

Earlier, the financial close agreement of the project was signed by Zorlu Company Chief Executive and CEO Alternative Energy Development Board Arif Allhudin on behalf of their respective organizations.

Speaking on the occasion Turkish Ambassador to Pakistan Babur Hizlan said that the Turkish companies are keen to invest in wind and solar energy sectors of Pakistan.

Earlier, a five member Chinese delegation under the head of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the world largest solar manufacture Company Suntech, Zhengrong Shi also called on Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar.

During the meeting, Mr.Shi shown keen interest to set up solar plants in Pakistan.
