Number of coronavirus cases surges in Punjab

While more cases of coronavirus suspects are tested positive, the total number of Covid-19 cases has reached 2,656 across the province of Punjab with 24 deaths so far.

While more cases of coronavirus suspects are tested positive, the total number of Covid-19 cases has reached 2,656 across the province of Punjab with 24 deaths so far.

Out of these cases, 701 are of Zaireen, 859 of Tableeghi Jamaat, 79 prisoners, 1002 of general public and others.

In Lahore, there are 445 confirmed cases of corona. Over 135 confirmed cases are under treatment at Mayo-Hospital, 20 in PKLI, six in Mozang Hospital, one in Ganga Ram Hospital, three in Services Hospital and rest in other health facilities including field hospital at Expo Centre.

A spokesman of the health department said that the patients are being extended best health facilities while doctors and paramedics have been provided protective kits. A huge cache of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has already been provided to five major hospitals of the Lahore to combat the virus.

On the other hand, four more doctors working in Nishtar Hospital have tested positive for the coronavirus raising the tally to 17.

Punjab Health Minister Dr Yasmin Rashid said that infected doctors were not treating coronavirus patients, as there is no coronavirus ward in the hospital and one of the doctors, who contracted the virus from his father, infected other doctors.

Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Usman Buzdar has already directed health department to conduct inquiry regarding surfacing of corona tests positive of few doctors, staff and submit its report.

Meanwhile, the first disinfecting tunnel system has been installed at the main entrance of the Punjab Institute of Neurosciences in Lahore in a bid to protect doctors, nurses, other medical staff, patients and their attendants.

Executive Director of Punjab Institute of Neurosciences Prof. Dr. Khalid Mahmood said that people dealing with the coronavirus epidemic are providing the best treatment facilities to the citizens.
