Euronext wheat edged higher on Thursday, holding near a one-month high as a firm physical market lent support in otherwise subdued trading during a US public holiday.
March milling wheat, the most active contract on Paris-based Euronext, settled 0.75 euros, or 0.4%, higher at 183.75 euros ($202.53) a tonne.
The contract had risen on Wednesday to a one-month peak of 184.50 euros but faced strong chart resistance as it approached the 185 euro level, dealers said.
Paris futures continued to draw support from firm physical premiums in Europe, reflecting slow selling by farmers, steady export demand and concern about rain disruption to sowing in parts of western Europe, including France.
"Each day we're seeing physical premiums that are at least as firm as the previous day," a French broker said.
"The sowing problems are encouraging the idea that it's worth waiting before selling, while there is always a bit of export demand to cover."
Paris prices have also been supported this week by covering of short positions in the spot December contract in the run-up to its expiry on Dec. 10, dealers said.
