ISLAMABAD: National Assembly's Standing Committee on National Harmony on Thursday asked the government to conduct population census of minorities to determine their actual population in the country.
The committee met here under the chairmanship of MNA Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani. The committee observed that the census is essential as the development schemes are based on population census.
The committee expressed concern over the illegal sale of minorities' properties and directed the concerned to take stringent measures to stop this illegal practice.
The committee suggested that the income from minorities' property must be utilized for their welfare.
The committee strongly condemned the incidents of forced conversions from one religion to another and directed the concerned to expedite the finalization of the proposed amendments to stop illegal offence.
The meeting was attended MNAs Dr Khatu Mal Jeewan, Ramesh Lal, Asiya Nasir, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan Nasir, Pir Muhammad Aslam Bodla, Munwer Lal, Jamila Gillani and Ms Reena Kumari.
