PESHAWAR: A 17-member delegation of European Union (EU) ambassadors Wednesday visited archaeological and tourists sites in Swat and lauded the efforts of Pakistan government and armed forces for restoring peace in the valley.
Members of the delegation desired that the tourism in Swat should be promoted and archaeological heritage be preserved so that the investors from across the world could invest here.
Provincial Minister for Sports, Culture, Youth Affairs, Archaeology and Museum Syed Aqil Shah and Provincial Secretary Syed Jamal ud din Shah and other high ranking civil and armed forces officers were accompanying the delegation.
Speaking on the occasion, the provincial minister said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province enjoys a unique status in the world due to Gandhara civilization.
He informed the delegation that the devolution of powers after historic 18th amendments in the constitution the provinces are responsible to protect and preserve archaeological sites.
He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province suffered huge losses in terms of lives due to international war on terror, adding that as many as 35,000 people have sacrificed their lives so far in the war.
He said that in order to give a message of peace and love the provincial government is promoting tourism, sports and culture by organizing different events.
Shah told the government desires that the tourists, traders and investors from across the world should explore visit the tourist and archaeological sites in Pakistan and invest here. He said that high level delegations from China, Japan and Korea will visit Pakistan next year in this regard.
