FBR urged to take notice of Regional Tax Offices strike

Published Updated

LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry here Tuesday urged the Chairman Federal Board of Revenue to take immediate notice of the strike in Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) causing hardships to business and individual taxpayers in resolution of their problems.

The LCCI President Irfan Qaiser Sheikh said that RTOs' strike has brought businesses to a halt as it is not only the revenue collection that has now been stopped for the last eleven days but refunds to the running businesses have also been stopped.

He urged the Board to fulfil the justified demands to restore the working in Regional Tax Offices as businessmen are facing numerous problems in getting their cases of refund cleared, while new businesses seeking National Tax Number and Sales Tax registration also facing hardships causing loss not only to the upcoming companies but to the national exchequer in shape of loss in revenue.

Irfan Sheikh said that the government should take appropriate measures to avert any such strike in future as it is not only hitting the economy but also sending a negative signal to the foreign businessmen who have invested in Pakistan.
