Dollar trims gains vs yen after US housing data

NEW YORK: The dollar pared gains against the yen on Tuesday after government data showed a steeper-than-expected fall in US housing starts for March.

US housing starts fell 5.8 percent last month, the biggest percentage drop since April last year, the US Commerce Department said.

The dollar slipped to 80.51 yen after the data from 80.62. It was last at 80.59 yen, up 0.3 percent.
