ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Friday directed removal of bottlenecks for import of Liquified Natural and Petroleum Gas, to help the country meet its energy needs.
Chairing a meeting here at the Prime Minister House, to review the steps taken by the Cabinet Committee on Energy to enhance power generation, Gilani directed the Technical Sub-committee of the Energy Committee to meet on immediate basis to remove bottlenecks in the import of LNG and LPG, and present its report to the Cabinet for a decision.
The meeting was attended by Minister of Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr. Asim Hussain, Minister for Foreign Affairs Ms. Hina Rabbani Khar, Deputy Chairman Planning Dr. Nadeem ul Haq, Secretaries of the relevant Ministries and other high government officials.
The meeting was apprised that on the directions of the Prime Minister arrangements were being made to provide natural gas to the power plants and the system would be fully operational within four to five days.
The meeting also reviewed steps taken by different government departments for conservation of energy.
The Prime Minister observed that rationalization of loadshedding, proper load management and injection of additional megawatts would provide relief to the people.
It was also decided to diligently pursue recovery of outstanding dues on account of the arrears from the defaulting provincial governments and government departments.
