ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Monday expressed his willingness to give in camera briefing to the parliamentarians on law and order situation in Karachi.
In response to point of orders raised by Senator Mushahidullah Khan, Khawaja Saad Rafique, Haider Abbas Rizvi, Haji Adeel, Ilyas Bilour and Afrasiab Khattak regarding worsening law and order situation in Karachi and ongoing target killings of political workers and arson attacks, the minister said," if the parliament allows me, I am ready to give in camera briefing on ethnic and sectarian violence in Karachi."
He said it was the responsibility of all political parties to strengthen hands of security forces for controlling crimes in Karachi.
He said," Karachi is a economic hub of the country and we need tolerance and an accommodating each other for progress and prosperity of the country".
The minister said that the anti state elements want to destabilize the country by hatching conspiracies.
He said that all available resources were being utilized to arrest target killers and bringing peace in the port city.
Rehman Malik said the joint investigation team would investigate all target killings.
He said that absence of any specific law is a big hurdle to bring criminals to justice adding that the required legislation proposed by the interior ministry has been pending in Senate for the last three years.
He said that the proposed bill would now be tabled in the National Assembly to make it a law. This legislation will help punish criminals involved in heinous crimes, he added.
Similarly, he said that Cyber Law is also necessary to deal with cyber crimes and stopping misuse of modern technology in other crimes.
He said that law enforcement agencies also investigating recent threatening letters and messages received by parliamentarians and would soon arrest those people who involved.
