ISLAMABAD: Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr. Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Monday that Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline is economic lifeline of the people of Pakistan who will not allow anyone to create hurdles in its construction.
Talking to media persons after attending the Jashn-e-Nauroze festival at Lok Virsa she said the country is facing worst energy crisis and this pipeline can prove way out of this crisis.She said this pipeline will further strengthen bilateral relations between the two Islamic countries.
To a question she said that the Parliament's defence committee has recommended that Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project should be started as early as possible.
"There will be no compromise on the issue of gas pipeline with Iran as most of our problems are linked with energy crisis and construction of this project can help Pakistan overcome the present energy crisis",she said.
To a question about Punjab Chief Minister's threat of long march,she said that this is proof of Punjab government's failure to provide protection to the citizens.
"Chief Minster of a province is violating his oath and talking about long march.During protest demonstrations,public property is being damaged in front o the police and those not participating in protests are beaten",she said.
About joining of Chaudhry Amir Hussain in Pakistan Tehrik Insaf,she said that those who joined Imran Khan are rejected elements.
Referring to PTI, she said that politics is not a limited overs match but a Test match and only the experienced teams win in this arena.
Earlier addressing as chief guest,at Jashn-e-Nauroze festival opening ceremony,she said that Pakistan and Iran have common history and culture and the PPP government has always strengthened relations with Iran during its tenures.
She pointed out that there was a great scope to enhance cooperation in various fields between Iran and Pakistan and both can benefit from each other's experiences. Firdous Ashiq said in the past during dictatorial regimes celebration of Nauroze was not allowed, and credit for lifting this ban goes to the peoples government.
The minister said that Pakistan has withstood international pressure on the issue of its economic cooperation with Iran and it is committed to safeguard bilateral interests.
Religious scholar Khanum Tayyaba Bukhari said that Pakistan and Iran are bonded together in common history, religion and traditions.She said that celebration of Nauroze in Pakistan was in line with the common culture and history.
She said that Nauroze is being celebrated in several countries of the world and is a day of sharing happiness.
Iranian Cultural Counselor Taqi Sadqi said that there was great scope to increase cooperation in field of arts and culture.
