UNITED NATIONS: UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan on Friday gave details to the UN Security Council on efforts to persuade President Bashar al-Assad to halt his deadly crackdown in Syria, diplomats said.
Annan spoke to a closed session of the 15-nation council by videoconference from Geneva about his talks in Damascus last weekend and contacts since with the government.
