SC allows Meesha Shafi’s counsel to cross-examine Ali Zafar’s witnesses

Setting aside the Lahore high court’s decision, the Supreme Court of Pakistan allowed on Tuesday Meesha Shafi’s counsel to cross-examine witnesses presented by Ali Zafar.

According to local media reports, the Supreme Court directed Zafar’s counsel to submit affidavits of the remaining witnesses within seven days, where after Shafi’s counsel will be allowed to cross-examine the nine witnesses at the same time.

Earlier, Shafi filed a petition where she argued that it was a basic right to cross-examine witnesses presented in the court and that the apex court should grant them the right.

LHC had earlier refused to give Shafi the right to cross-examine the witnesses, SC nullified their decision to give fair right to Shafi.

Shafi’s counsel informed the court that the defence does not know all of Zafar’s witnesses, who are also his employees. Zafar’s lawyer, however, stated that none of the witnesses are employed by him.

Zafar had filed the defamation suit last year against Shafi, who had accused him of sexual harassment.
