ISLAMABAD: Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Saturday announced to launch a countrywide membership campaign within 10 days.
Addressing a news conference here, he said PTI has set a target to make four million members in the drive, which would continue for 60 to 75 days.
The dedicated and committed workers would be mobilized to take the message of the party door-to-door to muster support for the party.
He claimed it would be an unprecedented and largest drive in the country's history, adding that at present 800,000 people have got themselves registered with PTI as members.
Khan said he does not believe in family politics so all office-bearers of PTI from 'bottom to top' would be elected by its members.
"Party elections will be held from union council to top level after completion of the membership drive."
Replying to a question, the PTI Chairman said the party's parliamentary board would award tickets to candidates for provincial and national assemblies in next general elections in line with recommendations of district organizing committees.
To a question about absence of Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Javed Hashmi from the press conference, Khan said he talked to Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Friday and Qureshi could not come because death of son of a close friend.
"Son of a close friend of Shah Mehmood committed suicide, so he was busy there." While, Makhdoom Javed Hashmi is in United States for fund raising for the party.
Responding to another question, Khan said the Mehran Bank case has exposed real faces of politicians, who claimed to be champions of democracy. "Now it is clear who plays in connivance with empire," the PTI Chairman observed.
