ISLAMABAD: The Accountability Court (AC) of Islamabad on Wednesday granted 10-day physical remand of accused Liaq Ahmed to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) in the Karkay Rental Power case.

During the hearing, the accused's counsel pleaded before the court that his client had made a transaction to Baber Zulkernain, who was representing the Karkay company.
There was not need to arrest his client as the amount involved in the transaction belonged to his family.
He said Liaq was arrested by the NAB officials on the information which he himself had shared with them. The counsel said his client had been suffering from the kidney disease and cancer, and he had dollars in his account for treatment abroad.
He said NAB had no documents or any other evidence against his client, who had appeared before its officials in response to every notice and provided all available information. The NAB prosecutor pleaded that five accused had been arrested in the case. Accused Liaq Ahmed and Baber Zulkernain had made transactions of $365,000 to an offshore company.
The transacted amount was not their personal money, rather it belonged to the national kitty. The company was established only in one day, he added.
To a court's query, the said two accused owned separate off-shore companies.
After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court granted 10-day physical remand of the accused and adjourned the case till April 22.
