KARACHI: At least 323 suspected measles cases have been reported across the Karachi city since the 1st January, out of these cases 76 kids have already been diagnosed as measles patients.

Talking to PPI, Deputy Director (Preventive) Directorate of Health Services, Karachi Dr. Kamran Rizvi, said a total 539 suspected measles patients have been detected throughout the Sindh province so far out of them 135 children are diagnosed as sufferers of measles.

He informed that measles outbreak was reported Landhi and Bin Qasim areas of Karachi city while anti-measles campaign has been launched in the high risk of union councils of Landhi including UC01,  UC 02, UC 03, UC06, UC 09, UC 10 and  UC 11.

Dr. Kamran further informed that 171 new suspected cases have been surfaced in Karachi in the month of March out of which 45 children were diagnosed with this infectious disease caused by the measles virus.

He said that measles vaccination are being given to unvaccinated children while vitamin-A to already diagnosed children to boost their immunization against measles virus.

He further informed that measles cases are being reported from Karachi particularly Landhi, Bin Qasim, Baldia and Malir areas.

Measles is a childhood infection caused by a virus which spreads easily through the coughs and sneezes of infected people. Initial symptoms typically include fever, cough, runny nose, and inflamed eyes.
