MULTAN: A task force of the Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) imposed Rs 36.2 million fine on 836 power pilferers during a crackdown across Khanewal circle from October 2018 to April 2019.
According to Mepco office sources, in line with special directions of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Mepco task force, along with the district administration and police under the supervision of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mepco Engineer Tahir Mahmood, launched a crackdown on power pilferers and caught 836 power thieves and imposed Rs 36.2 million fine on them for stealing 2.3 million electricity units.
The task force recovered Rs 15 million fine amount and got registered FIRs against 532 power pilferers with the police stations concerned, sources added.
