ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Thursday has predicted extreme temperatures to prevail in Karachi and other parts of Sindh in the coming days causing heat waves expected in late April.
Talking to APP, Director (PMD) Khalid Mehmood said that the temperature was gradually increasing and going towards warmer side all across the country. Sindh was expected to experience extremely hot weather, he added.
“This year will be as warm as the past four years, but we are not expecting any unprecedented heat waves during the month of March,” said Mehmood.
He said during the coming weeks, the temperature in Karachi could likely to rise up to 38° Celsius.
He said that this summer, the country was likely to have less rainfall in April and May. “April and May are the transition period for spring to summer season so rain is less likely to pour in Karachi,” said Mehmood.
According to the Met Office’s forecast, heat waves and extreme temperatures were expected to start from April.
“As far as temperature forecasts in the coming months are concerned, we are expecting the mercury to rise up to 38° Celsius to 40° Celsius in April hinting towards a heat wave, but we are expecting May and June to be very warm too,” Mehmood warned.
He said that the temperature might rise over 40° Celsius in May and June, adding that the heat wave early warning centre will be in close coordination with other institutions.
He recommended that the people should wear light-coloured clothes and stay hydrated from April till June.
