ISLAMABAD: Senate Committee on Law Reforms on Wednesday directed the Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Law and Justice to submit the draft of amendments within three weeks related to NADRA and citizenship laws.
The meeting held under the Chairmanship of Senator Farooq H. Naek was attended among others by Senators Azam Khan Swati, Advisor in Law Division Hakam Khan and officials from Ministries of Interior and Law and Justice.
The Committee was provided with a proposed form of Affidavit to be required based on the definition of Muslim and Non-Muslim for entry in voters list, birth certificate, appointment in all government, semi government institutions especially judiciary, armed forces and civil servants by Director Legal NADRA.
It directed to submit before the Committee the draft of amendments relating to exercise of powers under Pakistan Citizenship Act, 1951 and the contradictions found in Section 11 of National Database and Registered Authority Ordinance 2000 and Section 14 of Pakistan Citizenship Act, 1951 within in three weeks. The Committee was told by Chairman Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) that the CII is due to meet on April 4 and the Committees questions and recommendations regarding amendments needed in Muslim Family Law Ordinance, 1961.
The Committee also directed Ministry of law to obtain details of all pending cases in the four provinces and Islamabad Capital Territory and submit to the Committee within a month. The Law Division asked for some more time to consider the proposed amendments and respond to them in the NAB Ordinance Law.
