PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakthunkhwa Minister for Environment and Forests, Wajid Ali Khans said on Tuesday the Snow Festival at scenic Malam Jabba tourists and skiing resort in Swat district will start from March 3 next month to bolster tourism in the scenic valley.
The Minister told APP that paragliding, art work competition among children, women day and others functions would be held in the seven days festival that will continue till March 10, adding all arrangements have been completed.
In addition to provision of free transport from Spinay Obbo to Malam Jabba to tourists and natural lovers, he said, the Snow Festival will help revive tourism in Swat valley and provide better opportunities to people to enjoy the bounties of God.
The government has already organized musical shows and peace festival at Mingora and Kalam following restoration of peace with an objective to promote tourism sector and attract foreign and domestic tourists in Swat.
Wajid Khan said March 5 has been reserved for women and people can attend these programmes with families. A chairlift on temporary basis have been installed.
The Minister said the government was working on a plan to restore the original grandeur of Malam Jabba as ski resort. Located 45 kilometres from Mingora, the ski resort was destroyed by militants who also bombed the PTDC hotel and the chairlifts during Swat unrest.
Malam Jabba which is 9,000 feet above sea level, was popular with domestic and foreign skiers and contributed to Swat's economy.
To restore its original grandeur, the minister said the provincial government has approved a project for promotion of forestry in Swat including Malam Jabba and maximum plantation would be carried out in the spring season.
Khan said work on reconstruction of roads and bridges are underway in Swat besides reinforcement of walls and pavement of seasonal nullahs. He urged people to attend the Festival in large number.
