The Karachi Port handled 155,465 tonnes of cargo comprising 119,877 tonnes of import cargo and 35,588 tonnes of export cargo including 8,266 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Wednesday. The total import cargo of 119,877 tonnes comprised of 69,095 tonnes of containerised cargo; 55 tonnes of bulk cargo; 2,580 tonnes of rock phosphate; 43,387 tonnes of coal and 4,760 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 35,588 tonnes comprised of 23,488 tonnes of containerised cargo 12,100 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 8,266 containers comprising of 4,838 containers import and 3,428 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Wednesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,513 of 20's and 1,656 of 40's loaded while 13 of 20's and nil of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 664 of 20's and 255 of 40's loaded containers while 294 of 20's and 980 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were seven ships namely X-Press Suez, Ningbo Express, Ever Union, Sima Giselle, MT Lahore, Kastav and Zhong Xing Men carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.
There were four vessels viz. YM Bamboo, RHL Constantia, Marios G and Unique Developer carrying containers and oil tankers respectively currently at the berths.
