Prices of essential kitchen items witnessed a decline during this week past against the preceding week, revealed a survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Saturday.
According to the survey details, a slight reduction in prices of onions, potatoes and tomatoes was observed, as onions were being sold at Rs 130 against Rs 140 per 5kg in the wholesale market which were being sold at Rs 30-35 against Rs 40 per kg in the retail market. Potatoes were available at Rs 100 against Rs 120 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 25 against Rs 30 per kg in the retail market and tomatoes at Rs 110 per 5kg which were being sold at Rs 30 per kg in the retail market.
Garlic price was found to be stable as local garlic was available at Rs 230 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 65 per kg in the retail market, Quetta garlic at Rs 370 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 90 per kg in the retail market, while Chinese garlic price at Rs 450 per kg, which was being sold at Rs 130 per kg in the retail market. Ginger price remained stable at Rs 600 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 160-175 per kg in the retail market. Lemon price went up from Rs 1,100 to Rs 1,200 per 5kg which was being sold at Rs 280 against Rs 260 per kg.
No significant change was observed in the price of all the nonperishable items especially pulses, cooking oil, spices and other kitchen specific items as white lentil (Maash) was being sold at Rs 120 per kg, good quality grams at Rs 170 per kg, kidney bean (Lobia) in the range of Rs 100-120 per kg, green gram (Moong) at Rs 100 per kg, and red lentil (Masoor) was being sold at Rs 100 per kg.
Live chicken price in wholesales market went further down from Rs 5,700 per 40kg to Rs 5,500 per 40 kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 160 per kg against Rs 175 per kg, and chicken meat was being sold at Rs 280 per kg against Rs 300 per kg.
The eggs prices in wholesale market remained stable at Rs 84 per dozen which in retail market were being sold at Rs 92-95 per dozen. The survey observed that the butchers have not only increased mutton and beef prices but were also selling below weight, mutton price has been increased from Rs 920 per kg to Rs 950 per kg and beef price from Rs 480 per kg to 500 per kg, this is the fourth consecutive hike in the meat prices.
Capsicum price remained stable at Rs 150 per kg in wholesale market which in retail was sold at Rs 45-35 per kg; peas price went down from Rs 280 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5 kg which were being sold at Rs 70 per kg against Rs 75 per kg, taro's (arvi) price went up from Rs 220 per 5kg to Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60-65 per kg against Rs 50-55 per kg and carrot price went down from Rs 170 per 5kg to Rs 150 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 40 per kg against Rs 45-50 per kg.
Bean price slightly went down from Rs 230 per 5kg to Rs 220 per 5kg while in retail market it was being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 65 per kg, okra price went down from Rs 260 per 5kg to Rs 240 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60 per kg against Rs 65 per kg, and price of ridge gourd (tori) remained stable at Rs 250 per 5kg which in retail market was being sold at Rs 60-70 per kg.
