A Committee on Postal Services has expressed concern over non-serious attitude of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) towards embezzlement cases in Pakistan Post. The Committee on Postal Services met with MNA Syed Iftikhar-ul-Hassan in the chair here at the Parliament House on Wednesday.
The committee observed that due to non-coordination of the Ministry of Postal Services with the FIA and NAB, the recovery process in the embezzlement cases was affected badly. The committee directed the ministry to share consolidated list of embezzlement cases and brief the committee about the matter in the next meeting.
The committee was of the view that irregularities had been observed in the procedure adopted for appointment of lower staff in Pakistan Post. The committee had directed that the matter of illegalities in filling the vacant posts would be investigated and action would be taken against those found responsible. The budgetary proposals of the ministry for the financial year 2018-19 were endorsed by the committee, which had demanded Rs 346.9 million for construction/renovations of post offices across the country.
The committee was further briefed about the initiative of the ministry to introduce the projects through public-private partnership in order to generate the revenue. The ministry contradicting the news of privatization of Pakistan Post informed that the Prime Minister has accorded approval to initiate some projects on public-private partnership with the direction to ensure the protection of their assets.
The committee directed that the ministry may submit the complete details of public-private partnership and it will also invite them for briefing about the projects.
