Japanese government has approved US$25,569 under its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) for a project to provide second-hand Blood Donation Vehicle to Afzaal Memorial Thalassemia Foundation (AMTF). Japanese Consul General Toshikazu Isomura and AMTF chief executive Dr Asim Qidwai signed the grant contract at the official residence of the former, here on Tuesday. AMTF executive director Ateeq-ur-Rehman was also present. The grant covers the cost of reconditioning and transportation a second-hand Blood Donation Vehicle from Tokyo to Karachi.
There are many patients suffering from blood-related diseases but they are not treated properly. One of the reasons behind it is lack of their access to blood alongside unavailability of blood. The project is aimed not only to benefit a number of patients but also to create public awareness on importance of blood donation through said vehicle that will be running in all parts of Karachi.
Used but valuable vehicles are provided after bearing the cost of reconditioning and transportation under recycling grant scheme/GGP. The Blood Donation Vehicle, which was used in Japan, is donated by the Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy.
At the signing ceremony, Isomura expressed hope the vehicle would greatly improve health services in Karachi. He was sure the support from people of Japan would further strengthen friendly relationship with Pakistan. Under the GGP scheme, Japan has funded 360 projects in Pakistan since 1989.
