Government urged to ensure proper health and educational facilities in Fata
Speakers at a seminar have demanded the government for taking pragmatic measures for rehabilitation of damaged education, health facilities as well as other basic infrastructure before the implementation of the proposed reforms agenda in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA).
The seminar titled, 'Fata Future: Let the People for tribal region decide' held under auspices of Qabail Youth Movement (QYM) at Peshawar Press Club on Saturday. Notable speakers including Colonel Inamullah Wazir (retd), Karim Khan Advocate, Ahmad Saeed, Dr Said Alam Mehsud and others besides tribal rights activists, youth leaders, members of civil society, and lawyers participated in the event.
Most of the speakers at seminar strongly opposed the merger of FATA with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, terming it as unviable and unfeasible idea. They said the FATA people should be consulted whether they want to merger with KP or demand for a separate province.
The participants asked the government to avoid imposing any decision against wishes of the tribal people, and should take steps for rehabilitation of the internally displaced persons and reconstruction of damaged infrastructure in the tribal region.
Inamullah Wazir said the Qabailistan is only option to bring change in destine of people of the FATA. Karim Mehsud expressed serious concern over the recommendations of the Fata reforms commitment, saying the committee members didn't inform about traditions of tribal region even he added the tribal people were not taken in committee who are real stakeholders.
He said the idea of FATA-KP integration was proposed by some opportunists and political leaders, which is unacceptable to people of tribal region. He said the tribesmen want peace, development and progress.
Tahir Mehsud said tribal people had deprived from all fundamental rights due to imposition of the draconian Frontier Crime Regulation Act in Fata. He said if the people of Hazara division, Sairaki belts and Mahajir demanding a separate province, then why not people of Fata should make similar demand.
Ahmad Saeed said a conspiracy was being hatched to keep the tribal people deprived from all kind of rights and facilities. He said the abolishment of FCR is inevitable for provision of all fundamental right to people of Fata. He said the civil system should be introduced in the entire tribal region.
Dr Said Alam Mehsud strongly supported the idea for declaring the Fata as separate province, but he emphasised the need for initiating vigorous efforts in this regard.
Earlier, the FATA Youth Movement, president Ihasanullah presented a charter of demands, according to which, government asked to ensure establishment of sustainable peace, which is only way to bring economic prosperity and development in tribal region.
He demanded the complete abolishment of FCR in FATA. He said the FATA future should be decided with proper consultation with tribal people, instead of imposing any decision on them. He also sought the Election Commission of Pakistan to announce reserved seats for tribal women before the general elections.
