Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal Friday said that the government will implement the order of the Special Court if the former president does not return to the country within one week. Talking to reporters, he said that Ministry of Interior will implement court's order if the former president does not return within one week.
The Ministry of Interior has received a letter of Musharraf seeking security on his return to the country, he said, adding that Musharraf has given assurance in his letter that he will return to the country within one week, due to which the concerned department has been barred from suspending his CNIC and passport.
About National Accountability Bureau (NAB) request to put name of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, his sons Hussain and Hassan Nawaz and son-in-law Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) on exit control list (ECL), he said that the matter has been forwarded to the federal cabinet for approval.
He said now the ministry will take approval from the federal cabinet before placing anyone's name on the ECL. The minister said that during the tenure of former interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, the names of accused were placed or removed from ECL following the recommendations of a committee which was a violation of the Supreme Court's judgment.
He said the Ministry of Interior had constituted a committee in 2015 headed by an additional secretary for dealing with the matter of ECL but in 2016 the Supreme Court in a judgment said that placing anyone's name on the ECL is the authority of federal government. Keeping in view this judgment, the approval of federal cabinet is mandatory before placing anyone's name on ECL, he said.
He said the cases approved during former Interior Minister Chaudhary Nisar Ali would be ratified by the cabinet. Chaudhry Nisar should be aware that Ministry of Interior takes decision on its own and does not take dictation from anyone, he said.
The minister said that Ministry of Interior is implementing court's orders regarding former ambassador Husain Haqqani. His ministry has also written a letter to the Interpol to help bring founder of MQM Altaf Hussain back to the country. He said that special security arrangements will be made for the final match of Pakistan Super League (PSL).
