More than 80 percent patients hailing from city and outskirts of Thatta are found positive for hepatitis B and C during screening in two-day free medical camp there. A medical and surgical camp was organized on Saturday and Sunday at Qadir Bux Bhutto Trust Hospital by Hashmani's Medical Welfare Foundation, a Karachi-based charity.
These facts were shared by Hashmani's Medical Welfare Foundation chairman and renowned eye surgeon Dr Sharif Hashmani at a media briefing at Hashmani's Hospital, here on Tuesday. He said that more than 1100 patients were examined during two-day camp and over 500 of them were screened for hepatitis profile, cholesterol and diabetes.
He said it was very alarming that they found 80 percent lab samples positive for hepatitis B and C which need urgent attention of government officials. More than 25 percent patients were found diabetic too during laboratory investigations, he said.
"As many as 123 cataract operations were performed on patients during these two days which will also be followed up. We will soon establish a charity hospital to cater medical needs of poor population of Thatta and its surroundings," he announced. Dr Hashmani said that Qadir Bux Bhutto Trust offered building of the Trust's hospital in main Thatta city for medical camp for which he thanked the Trust.
