The sit-in protest of FATA people demanding justice for Naqeebullah Mehsud, who was killed in a fake police encounter recently, entered the third day on Saturday. Hundreds of people from the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) reached Islamabad in different rallies on Thursday last and gathered in front of National Press Club (NPC) to register their protest against the killing of Mehsud in a fake police encounter.
The protestors are stuck to their demand of arresting former Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Rao Anwar, allegedly responsible for brutal killing of Mehsud. The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with slogans like 'Justice for Naqeebullah Mehsud', 'Stop Pakhtun Genocide' and 'Stop Killing of Pakhtun Children'. They asked the government to arrest Anwar and his accomplices, besides releasing innocent Pakhtun languishing in different jails.
The protesters holding placards demanding justice in Mehsud murder case threatened to move towards the Parliament House if their demands are not met. A heavy contingent of police was deployed around the protest venue in order to avoid any mishap. The police also blocked some roads for traffic and placed containers at different intersections of the city. Due to blockage of roads, motorists faced problems.
The 27-year-old Naqeebullah, a resident of South Waziristan, was among four suspects allegedly killed in an encounter with a police team, headed by SSP Rao Anwar at Usman Khaskheli Goth in the outskirts of Karachi last week. Meanwhile, television personality Rehman Khan joined the protesters on Saturday and while talking to the media, she said that the protest over extrajudicial killing of Mehsud is for a bigger cause and condemned alleged media blackout of the protest.
