The Punjab Provincial Development Working Party (PDWP) approved four development schemes of irrigation and health sectors with an estimated cost of Rs 17 billion here on Tuesday including Chief Minister's Stunting Reduction Program at the cost of Rs 8993 million.
These schemes were approved in PDWP's 33rd meeting of current fiscal year 2017-18 presided over by the Chairman P&D Muhammad Jahanzeb Khan. Secretary and all members of P&D Provincial Secretaries concerned and other senior representatives of the relevant departments also attended the meeting.The approved development schemes included:
1. Construction of Dadhocha Dam, Rawalpindi (revised) at the cost of Rs 6137.571 million.
2. Rehabilitation and upgrade of Fakhar Flood Bund RD 10+600 to 25+300m Rajanpur (DCRIP) at the cost of Rs 636.56 million.
3. Rehabilitation and Upgrade of River Training Works of Balloki Head Works, District Kasur and Nankana Sahib (DCRIP) at the cost of Rs 1303.17 million and;
4. Chief Minister's Stunting Reduction Program at the cost of Rs 8993 million. In the first phase, the program will be launched in 11 districts of South Punjab.
It is worth mentioning here that according to a UNICEF report in Pakistan, 44 percent of children are stunted. This is the third highest percentage of stunted children in the world and means that more than 9.6 million Pakistani children have experienced chronic nutrition deprivation in utero and/or during early childhood. Every year, stunting is the cause of one million child deaths around the world.
