Margaret Adamson, High Commissioner of Australia, called upon industrialists and human resources managers to develop a better understanding of new concepts and ideas in human resources and to upgrade the skills capital of employees. She added that Australia is well placed to provide technical knowledge and training in mining, agriculture, livestock, and education.
She was addressing the annual International Human Resources Management Conference of Employers Federation of Pakistan in collaboration with International Labour organization and Bahria University Karachi Campus as chief guest of the inaugural session. The conference was attended by around 200 delegates, representing the corporate sector, intelligentsia, academia, business and civil society.
Majyd Aziz , president Employers' Federation Of Pakistan, in his welcome address called upon the HR Managers to equip themselves with new vision, knowledge and tools to be able to deal with the blend of technology, innovation and entrepreneurship that are imperative to bring about fundamental changes in the future of work.
He said that the eight themes of the Conference have been selected to reflect the emerging demands of the Human Resources profession and need to be addressed on a priority. The Conference proceedings will throw the challenge to HR Managers to develop confidence in order to come up to the expectations of their respective organizations Saghir Bukhari, Senior Program Officer, ILO presented his keynote address on "Future of Work and HRD Challenges" highlighting the major process of change undergoing in the world of work and the response of the ILO in order to be able to advance its mandate for social justice.
Margaret Adamson, who was accompanied by Leonie Muldoon, Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner South Asia, Austrade, based in New Delhi and Nicole Guidhot, First Secretary, Australian High Commission, conferred EFP Award for Best HR Practices 2017 on winning companies in the multinational, large national and SME categories while Special Awards and Recognition Crests were also presented. Zaki A Khan, Vice President EFP and Chairman Award Committee announced the result of the contest.
The High Commissioner also witnessed the signing of the agreement between EFP and Quality Builders Ltd for undertaking the construction of EFP House in Clifton. This project was dormant for last 25 years and has been reactivated by the EFP Board of Directors on a priority basis. Prof David Rowland, Professor Of Psychology at Valparaiso University, USA, Erik Froelich, Director for International Initiatives at Valparaiso University, USA, and Dr Patricia Omidian, Founder Focusing Initiatives, USA spoke on the psychological traits of future HR Managers, Impact Of Emerging Market on HRM Culture, and Boon & Bane Of Social Diversity in HRM respectively while Prof. Dr. Mustaghis-ur-Rahman , Head of Management Sciences Bahria University, spoke on Role of Trio ( CEO, CFO & CTO) in Organizational Development, in the business session chaired by Veqar Islam, CEO Jaffer Brothers and Brigadier Abdul Ghaffar Khan (retd), General Manager HR Mari Petroleum Ltd while Riazuddin, CEO Dollar Industries was the Chief Guest of the session.
A very interactive panel discussion took place in the afternoon session chaired by Asif Saad, COO K Electric with Stephen P Knode, Senior Commercial Officer, US Consulate General, Karachi, as the Chief Guest. The panelists included Jamil Bajwa (K-Electric), Zeeshan Lakhpaty, Alkarim Hassan, Uzma Alkarim, (GEO), Muhammad Afzal (PTCL) and Farah Amir (PTCL).
The Conference was moderated by Fasihul Karim Siddiqi, Secretary General EFP, Sharmeen (KE) and Nuzhat Jahan (EFP) while Zaki, Vice President EFP presented the vote of thanks. Mementos were presented to the Chief Guests, speakers, panellists and selected dignitaries.-PR
