President Vladimir Putin is said to have signed into law new rules on international media organizations present in Russia being termed "foreign agents", following US pressure on the Kremlin-backed PT television channel. Already approved by both houses of parliament, the legislation was published on the Russian authorities' official website and comes into force immediately.
The law allows any international media outlet operating in Russia to be classified under the controversial foreign agent label by the Ministry of Justice. RT (formerly Russia Today) is a Russian International Television network. It is the main Russian broadcaster to challenge US media's global news coverage. Its talks shows, particularly the 'Crosstalk', have earned a reputation of an informed opinion platform. The Trump administration is therefore required to look deeper into the issue, appreciating the fact that the current state of belligerence in White House and in Kremlin is reminiscent of the Cold War.
