Sindh University vice chancellor Professor Dr Fateh Muhammad Burfat has said that no any minority student from the varsity has been expelled upon playing with the colours on the eve of Holi which was celebrated on March 8 at Sindh University Jamshoro. He said that a fact-finding committee had been constituted to conduct the inquiry whether the chairman of media communication and studies was involved in seeking apologies from the students on stamp papers, adding that if Dr Badar Soomro found involved in such practices, a stern action would be taken against him as per varsity rules.
This he said while addressing a press conference here at Hyderabad Press Club on Saturday. Registrar Dr Muhammad Saleem Chandio, Professor Sanjhota Bai, Professor Anil Kumar Bhatia and other were also accompanying him. Dr Burfat said there was a complete religious freedom to all faiths, including that of Hindus at Sindh University and all were equal and together.
He said that he had taken the notice on the complaints that Dr Badar Soomro had expelled some of the students from the department upon celebrating Holi at Media and Communication Studies on March 8, 2017. "I personally contacted Dr Soomro and directed him to restore the students forthwith. I did it even on the same day", said the vice chancellor Professor Fateh Muhammad Burfat.
He said he had formed a high-level committee comprising Registrar Dr Muhammad Saleem Chandio, dean faculty of law Advocate Jhamat Jethanand, director Area Study Centre Dr Hamadullah Kakeporo and dean faculty of social sciences Dr Nagina Parveen to investigate into the matter properly. The committee will submit its report within a week and in the light of the report, he said, strict action will be taken against the accused as per rules. Dr Burfat said that he had already constituted the committees to re-check the examination copies of the students on the complaints adding that no discrepancy could be tolerated on the campus on the basis of caste, colour, creed and religion.
