Police on Wednesday registered a case against several students arrested after a clash between Pashtun Student Federation (PSF) and Islami Jamiat Talba (IJT) in Punjab University on Tuesday. The clash had left at least 10 students wounded. The case was registered at the Muslim Town police station. The Punjab University campus remained open on Wednesday; however, all activities scheduled have been cancelled. Students who came to sit for examinations were allowed to enter the campus. Police personnel have been deployed within the campus to avoid any untoward incidents.
Keeping in view the tense situation arises after the clash between PSF and IJT the university administration has announced a holiday on March 24. Pashtun students cancelled the rally after successful dialogue with the vice chancellor Punjab University Dr Zafar Muin Nasir.
Earlier, while addressing the press conference PSF leaders alleged that IJT were behind attacks on them. They also demanded that government should implement National Action Plan. Higher Education Department Government of Punjab constituted a Fact Finding Committee to investigate the incident took place on Tuesday chaired by Special Secretary Higher Education Department. Vice Chancellor Punjab University is the co- chairman while DIG Punjab Dr Haider Ashraf, SP Iqbal Town Umar Farooq, Chairman Hall Council, Director, Directorate of Student Affairs, Chief Security officer and Resident officer 1 are the members of the committee.
Meanwhile, Punjab University Teachers Front (PUTF) has announced a shadow Academic Staff Association, following the inability of the incumbent representative of the university teachers who remained completely silent on the sad incident on brutal fight between IJT and Pashtun students.
