Parliamentary Committee on CPEC has recommended formation of a platform for intelligence sharing of all security forces and intelligence agencies for the security of Gwadar port and other CPEC projects, it is learnt. An in-camera meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC was held under the chairmanship of Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed at Parliamentary House on Monday.
When contacted, a member of the committee, Alhaj Shahji Gul Afridi, confirmed this correspondent that the Parliamentary Committee on CPEC has recommended to constitute a platform for taking on board and intelligence sharing of all security forces and civil and military intelligence agencies for Gwadar port and other CPEC projects. He said that every security and intelligence agency of federal as well as provincial governments should co-ordinate with one another for information sharing. He said there is a need of a platform, like National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), for the security of Gwadar port and CPEC projects.
He said that Parliamentary Committee on CPEC has given recommendations for formation of an authority or platform for the security of Gwadar port and CPEC projects. He said, "Ministry for Planning, Development and Reforms will formulate the recommendations and send them to the Prime Minister for final approval." Shahji Gul Afridi said that all the members of the committee and the officials of Interior Ministry agreed to constitute a platform or authority to bring all security forces as well as civil and military intelligence agencies under an umbrella for intelligence sharing and for the security of Gwadar port and CPEC projects.
According to a press release issued by the secretary Parliamentary Committee on CPEC, the panel discussed the security of CPEC (projects and personnel) with reference to the role of newly formed Special Security Division (SSD) and Maritime Security Force and their role in security of Gwadar port.
In this connection, the senior officers of the Ministries of Defence, Interior and Communication briefed the committee in detail about the formation, jurisdiction, working and challenges ahead for these newly created security agencies. The members put many questions to understand the role of each security agency and coordination among them. The committee appreciated the high spirit, determination and preparedness of Special Security Division (SSD) and Maritime Security Force as well as paramilitary and police forces deployed to safeguard and protect personnel and projects of CPEC.
