Pakistan Flour Mills Association (PFMA) has announced not to make any new export agreement till the government clears Rs 4.5 billion outstanding rebate amount of the wheat and wheat product exports. This was announced by the PFMA Central Chairman Badaruddin Kakar and Group Leader Asim Raza Ahmad while addressing a press conference here on Monday. They said that the flour mills were facing severe liquidity crunch because of delay in payment of their dues by the government and were unable to further export wheat or wheat products.
PFMA Central Chairman Badaruddin Kakar said that hundreds of thousands of surplus wheat was present in the country but the government seemed least interested its disposal through exports. Kakar earlier also chaired a meeting of the PFMA which reviewed the hardships being faced by the flour milling industry in export. He said that the flour mills exported wheat and wheat flour in line with the government policy but they were being denied rebate announced by the government on export of wheat. He said that rebate cases were being kept in pendency unjustifiably.
PFMA Group Leader Asim Raza Ahmad said that the Association would convene another meeting in Karachi by the end of current month where decision of any further line of action would be taken. The meeting was also attended by the PFMA Chairman Riazullah Khan, Mian Riaz, Liaquat Ali Khan, Naeem Butt and others. Meanwhile, PFMA leadership strongly condemned the suicide bombing in Lahore on Monday evening. They expressed sympathy with those who lost their lives in this incident.
