JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has said that his party had never opposed merger of the Federally-Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, instead it has proposed that there has to be consultations with tribesmen over the fate of their region.
Speaking at a lawyers' convention held here on Sunday at the JUI-F's provincial secretariat, he said: "His party's proposal for having consultations with tribesmen is being considered as a crime. British Raj imposed 40 Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR) on Fata, while our today's rulers and some politicians are following in the footsteps of Britishers by imposing their decisions on them (tribesmen)."
He said: "The United States' offer regarding the fate of Fata has exposed the conspiracy as the British Raj had been calling tribesmen as Baghi (rebels)' and today our rulers and some specific elements are celebrating the word."
Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that like security forces, the JUI-F has also played a major role in eliminating terrorism. "We had cut the ideological line of terrorists, while the security agencies had cut their defence line," he added.
