Pakistan on Wednesday summoned an Indian diplomat over the recent cross Line of Control (LoC) firing, officials said. The army says that a 25-year-old labourer, who was working for a construction company, was martyred as a result of unprovoked Indian in the Khuiratta sector on Tuesday. The Foreign Ministry summoned the Indian Deputy High Commissioner, J P, and condemned the unprovoked ceasefire violation on 07 February by the Indian "occupation forces."
The Director General of the South Asian Desk at the Foreign Ministry Dr Mohammad Faisal "deplored the deliberate targeting of civilians, which is a crime as well as violation of international human rights and humanitarian laws." Pakistan and India had declared ceasefire along the LoC in 2003 and guns had been relatively silent since then. Both countries, however, routinely accuse each other of violation.
The Pakistani official urged the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding; investigate this and other incidents of ceasefire violations; instruct the Indian forces to respect the ceasefire, in the letter and spirit, stop targeting the villages and civilians and maintain peace on the LoC, a Foreign Ministry statement said.
