Permanent seats on UNSC Pakistan slams states for inflexible attitudes

Pakistan has told the United Nations (UN) that the campaign by a group of countries for permanent seats of the Security Council defies the 21st century principle of achieving democratic representation through periodic elections. Pakistan's Ambassador to the UN, Maleeha Lodhi, was referring to four countries which have been demanding permanent membership of Security Council, said that in the present century it is inconceivable to establish or run an institution which does not embrace the fundamental principles of representation and accountability.
She expressed these remarks at the long-running Intergovernmental Negotiations aimed at expanding the Security Council to make it more representative. She asked the G-4 (India, Brazil, Japan and Germany) to be flexible in their demand for permanent seats.
