The people of South Punjab observed 'Kashmir Solidarity Day' Sunday to reaffirm their support for the struggle of the people of India-held Kashmir for their right to self-determination pledged under several UN Security Council resolutions.
Jamaat Islami, Jamaat-ud-Dawa, JUI-F, JUP, PML-N, traders and social, cultural organisation, and business community organised rallies, human chain, and demonstrations. They burnt the Indian flag to express their anger on the brutalities in Indian Held Kashmir.
Rallies, seminars, demonstrations and other events were organised in Multan, Bahawalpur, Muzaffargarh, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahimyar Khan, Khanewal, Vehari, Lodhran, Rajanpur and Layyah as an expression of unwavering support to the struggle of Kashmiris.
President of Multan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI) Khawaja Jalaluddin Roomi said that Kashmir dispute must be resolved according to the aspirations of Kashmiris otherwise dream for peace in the region would remain elusive. He urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to stop bloodbath in held Kashmir and allow holding of free and fair plebiscite under the auspices of the United Nations, as for the last seven decades India had denied valiant Kashmiris the right to self-determination promised to them by the international community through numerous UN Security Council resolutions. He said that Business community as well as people of Pakistan are standing with their Kashmiri brothers.
Roomi said that the Kashmir Day had special significance this year because the recent uprising in India-held Kashmir, following the July 8 extra-judicial killing of popular youth leader Burhan Muzaffar Wani had shaken the conscience of the international community.
The main event of the day was the formation of symbolic human chains at Chowk Ghanta Ghar, which sent a loud and clear message to the international community in general and India in particular that Pakistanis and Kashmiris are like "one soul in two hearts". In Multan Kashmiris also held rallies to voice their support for the oppressed but resilient people of India-held Kashmir.
